Los Angeles has been rocked by an earthquake initially estimated to be 5.0 magnitude.
Residents in Malibu, 4.3 miles north of the epicenter of the quake, said their 'pools were still shaking' minutes after the initial incident.
The quake began at 7.28am local time on Thursday, impacting residents in Pomona, Pasadena and Riverside.
While initial reports suggested the magnitude of the quake was as high as 5.1, the U.S. Geological Survey has since revised the preliminary magnitude to 4.7.
Reports suggest residents in San Diego also felt the impact.
A 2.8 magnitude aftershock was reported two minutes later, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
'That earthquake was the scariest since Northridge,' one Malibu resident said.
'Not the rolling kind but more like a violent shaking.'
Model and television star Amber Rose was among concerned locals, taking to X to describe it as 'the biggest earthquake I've ever experienced in California.'
'Hope everyone is okay,' she added.
There have not been any reports of injuries as of late Thursday morning.
While California records thousands of earthquakes every year, only 15-20 reach a magnitude of 4.0 or greater.
Several hundred reach a magnitude of 3.0, while the bulk are extremely minor.
Southern Californians took to X in droves to reveal they were woken by the shakes.
One wrote: 'Did that earthquake have to hit before my alarm went off?! Now I can’t get back to sleep.'
Another said: 'I can notoriously sleep through a million alarms and silence them without consciousness but... I'm not used to California because everytime there is an earthquake I wake up angrily wondering why the hell something is shaking me.'
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass acknowledged the quake on Thursday morning and said authorities are conducting a 'routine survey of the city to assess damages.'
She said: 'A preliminary magnitude 5.1 earthquake near Malibu shook the Los Angeles area this morning. City teams will continue to monitor.'
Earlier this week, Californians experienced five earthquakes across a 48-hour period, sparking concern among residents.
A 4.4-magnitude was felt in the north around Lake County on Saturday and two more struck the area the following evening, ranked as a 2.7 and 2.8-magnitude.
Locals in southern California also reported two more quakes on Saturday, with the largest ranking a 3.9-magnitude.
