Agraphic video showing the moment NFL star Aiden Hutchinson injured his leg has gone viral.
Hutchinson, who plays defensive end for the Detroit Lions, sustained the injury on Sunday during the Lions and Dallas Cowboys game when he went in for a sack of Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott in the third quarter.
Prescott and Hutchinson collided and as Prescott pulled him down, Hutchinson's ankle appeared to collide with teammate Alim McNeill's left leg. It was later revealed that Hutchinson had sustained a broken tibia, also known as the shin bone.
The injury was so graphic that the Fox broadcast of the game refused to show any replays of the incident.
Jeff Mueller, a doctor of physical therapy and field football injury analyst, posted a clip of the video on X, formerly known as Twitter. At the time of writing, the video has already had 6.8 million views.
In the caption, Mueller expressed concern for "left Tibia/Fibula fracture after impact with his [Hutchinson's] teammates shin" and wrote in the comments that he expected Hutchinson to be out of action for "probably a full year."
After watching Mueller's video, one social media user commented: "This is an insane way to snap your leg. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like that before."
The ML Football page on X reposted Mueller's clip with a graphic warning, describing the injury as "Brutal."
"Yeah this is really really bad,' commented one social media fan under ML Football's post.
"That's incredibly unsettling. Aiden Hutchinson's injury is hard to watch, and our thoughts are with him. Wishing him strength and a full recovery," wrote another.
After Hutchinson's injury, the NFL game was stopped for approximately ten minutes as medics tended to him on the field. The 24-year-old player was seen wincing in agony and was later carried off the field with his leg in a cast.
For Hutchinson, it was a sad end to what had been a great game. At the time of his injury, the Lions were winning 34-6.
The final score was 47-9 to the Lions.
After his brutal injury, Hutchinson is set to be out of play for the rest of the season.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Lions head coach Dan Campbell said: "Obviously, he's going to be down a little while, so that's tough, and it's hard when you lose somebody like him. We'll know a lot more after this and obviously wish him the best."
Following the game, ESPN reporter Adam Schefter wrote that Hutchinson had undergone immediate surgery at a hospital in the Dallas area.
