The wait time for a US passport has gone from 1-4 weeks (in the 2010's) to 14-18 weeks in 2023 as Americans line up to get their passports. Last one out is.......
Ask at any US government office that issues passports, the wait time has gone from about a couple weeks to about 4 months as over ten million Americans are rushing to get their US passports.
Like locusts fleeing the temple in some Indiana Jones movie, Americans are suddenly lining up and waiting (and waiting) to get their US passport. Generally step 1 in getting a second passport. Or just leaving for good.
Note, Mexico, warts and all, actually has 2 million born in the USA Americans living there. Mexico, like most countries on Earth is much more relaxed about people entering Mexico (walk across the desert, short boat ride across the Rio Grande….. or wait for your passport and just go by plane bus or car). In Mexico an estimated 800,000 Americans have over-stayed their 120 day tourist visa and Mexico rarely, very rarely deports anyone. Actually most countries in the Americas, very rarely deport anyone.
And yes, you do have to work, get a pension, have money saved up, do something when you get there………
Northern Europe (except England) still has very generous welfare and very generous refugee re-settlement packages available. In socialist Norway, for example, welfare is $4,000 per month cash plus a FREE modern (nice!) apartment, 100% free-of-charge- healthcare including dental, free universities (Norwegians can pick any university on Earth and the Norwegian govt pays for your studies in full, 100%) and more, much more. Life expectancy is 5 years longer in Norway than in the USA, their healthcare system is just so much better, you even get an extra 5 years on average added to your life. No co-pays. No deductibles. No pre-authorizations ever needed. It’s like a different universe. Ditto at the university, pick any university in the world, and everything is free (thanks to the socialist Norwegian government).
Each college is different and many of the smartest people look into about 200 colleges, maybe apply to 20 and then pick one they like. You want to pick the best college, this goes without saying.

In “socialist” Norway, for example, if you do work, the average salary is $90,000 per year and the average TOTAL tax rate is 45%. (The lie that the USA is the richest country is a lie……(PPP China is way richer than the US and per capita Norway is way richer than the US) and the lie that those European countries have such a high tax rate is yet another lie…….. truth be told the tax rate is higher in the US (mostly due to endless wars, forever wars and a mushrooming US secret police surveillance state) such that “rich” US cities like NYC and San Francisco, where the average middle class tax rate is (bottom line) 70%. In NYC and SF, for every $100 you earn, it’s $70 to the govt (tax after tax after tax ……) and $30 for you.

And the crime rates are more than quadruple in “rich” US cities than the crime rates in places like “socialist” Norway. Yes there was a mass shooting in Norway the past decade…… and you know there are more than 10 mass shootings per week in the USA, thousands of mass shootings per decade in the USA…… the whole world knows this.
Apples to apples and oranges to oranges, every industrialized developed country on earth is safer than the US secret police / surveillance state and many (many) of the poorer countries on earth are safer (much safer) than the USA.

Huh? A crime rate about 1/10th of the US crime rate, people routinely tell the truth, all your basic human rights like food, shelter and healthcare are met than so much more other freedoms like freedom of the press, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, the right to feel secure in your person and your personal effects, the right to redress govt wrongs……… and so many other rights in so many other countries, not the US, so many OTHER countries have even more freedoms than that.
Truth be told, the total bottom line tax rate in rich northern European countries is less, much less than it is in the USA (and this IS news to most people and this IS news that you won’t see on CNN or Fox).
The lines keep getting longer to get a US passport if you’re a US citizen, do you want to wait until the day after a crisis to decide to finally get your passport…… then figure the line is 14 to 18 weeks (or perhaps longer later this year)…… or you want to get that 10 years passport now and have that passport ready just in case it ever becomes a life or death emergency to get out of the United States. Fast.
